Finding the right motivational speaker, keynote speaker or entertainer for your convention, sales conference or other corporate event can be a challenge. Do you want to hire funny motivational speakers or someone in your industry that will stand behind a podium and state some statistics and educate your audience about the trends in your business?
Over the past few years I’ve had countless clients call me that said the exact same thing. They say that they had speakers in their industry before, but wanted to try something new. Their guests were tired of getting lectured to and wanted a speaker that was funny and entertaining.
Before the economy crashed a number of years ago, I’d get calls all the time to entertain at corporate events. They just wanted to let their employees have fun. As the economy changed companies wanted more motivation and less entertainment. They wanted a return on their investment more than letting their employees have a great time and laugh.
I had to adapt my presentations and make them more educational and motivational all while keeping it fun and entertaining. It was a big change for me, but it turned into something really great. The boss was happy because I motivated his employees and the employees were happy because I was entertaining and they felt appreciated. It’s a win-win situation.
As the economy got better employees were getting bored of the lectures at the conventions and conferences. They wanted to know they are appreciated and work for a company that cares. Some companies had stopped their conferences and other events due to the economic downturn. The companies that still took the time and money to have an awards banquet, convention or other things seemed to have happier and more motivated employees. Happy and motivated employees tend to work more and produce better results for their company.
My comedy mind reading / mentalism show is by far my most popular presentation for those wanting just entertainment. Over the years companies have hired a lot of comedy magicians, jugglers, bands, comedians or other variety acts, but not many of them ever hired a mind reader / mentalist. It was something fresh and new to entertain their employees.
It wasn’t the same old, same old, it was unique and included a lot of audience participation. As a mentalist I combine audience participation and mind boggling routines into a presentation your guests will remember forever. I also don’t swear during my presentations so it’s good for anyone from the 18 year old in the front office to the grandmother of the CEO.
I’m able to blend in most messages that my clients want to get across the their employees. I weave it into my presentations so your employees are getting educated and motivated at the same time as they are being entertained.
The presentations I enjoy doing the most are those where I combine motivation and entertainment. I’m able to weave a motivational message into my motivational entertainment presentations and inspire my audience to do better in their lives, focus on their goals or whatever else my client wants me to get them to focus on. Topics like change in the workplace, thinking like your customers and goal setting seem to be the most popular topics.
It’s like the Mary Poppins song about the spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down in the most delightful way. The entertainment portions of my presentation is the sugar that helps get your message down into their brains. 🙂
Scheduling the motivational speaker,, keynote speaker and / or entertainer during the best time at your event is a must. Think of the last time you went out for dinner and had way too much to eat. If the waiter or waitress comes up and asked if you wanted dessert you probably said no. Although you’d love to have some you had enough already.
It’s the same for motivational speakers and entertainers. When your conference or convention schedule is jam-packed your guests get tired no mater how dynamic the presentations are. Don’t have your main presenter go on at 9PM after your guests have been up since 8AM and going to meetings or other things all day long.
Funny Motivational Speakers
You need to schedule the motivational speaker or entertainment for a time when your guests haven’t had enough yet. If they are getting tired or bored they won’t get as much out of a presentation no matter who is on stage. I’ve presented at both the perfect times during the schedule and also some of the worst times. I’ve made it work, but I sure prefer an audience that is awake and happy from the start. 🙂
When looking for funny motivational speakers make sure their humor is appropriate for your audience. I’ve been on the bill with some entertainers that were R or X rated and it was a disaster. This isn’t a comedy club, it’s your convention, conference or other important corporate event. Some say they are a corporate comedian, but their act sure isn’t. You don’t want to offend your boss, your guests or anyone else.
I’ve heard of more than a couple of occasions where the boss walked up on stage, took the microphone from the entertainer and asked them to leave. That was the end of the entertainment portion of their event.
When it’s your name behind booking the motivational speaker and entertainment you can’t risk having anything but the best.
If you want a business speaker in your industry that will park themselves behind a podium and speak at your employees rather than to them, it’s up to you. If you prefer to have a funny motivational speaker and entertainer all rolled into one, give me a call.
