Corporate Holiday Party Entertainment: Why Quality Matters

More companies are quietly skipping the holiday party altogether, and employees are noticing. For a lot of them, that party was the one time all year their employer made a real effort to say thank you. When it disappears, it doesn’t go unnoticed, it reads as a message, and not a good one.

company holiday party

If you are going to have a holiday party, it has to actually show employees they’re appreciated, not just check a box. Writing a check to a local charity in the company’s name is a nice gesture, but employees know that’s also a tax write-off, and it doesn’t feel like something was done for them. A tired DJ, a slideshow of the year’s sales numbers, or a halfway effort sends a similar message. Employees compare notes with friends at other companies, and they remember which year the party felt like a genuine celebration versus which year it felt like an afterthought.

It’s not only about this year, either. A holiday party that genuinely makes people feel valued carries forward. Employees who leave the party feeling appreciated tend to bring that motivation back with them into January, while a forgettable night, or no night at all, does nothing to set the tone for the year ahead.

Mentalist For Sales Meeting

Corporate holiday party entertainment does not need to be loud or flashy to work, but it does need to bring the whole room in, not just part of it. Casino nights leave out anyone who isn’t into gambling. A DJ or a band leaves out anyone who doesn’t want to dance. Those options can work well for some crowds, but they naturally split a room into people participating and people standing on the sidelines. A corporate mentalist works differently, because the show is built around the audience itself. Guests from every department become part of the performance instead of just watching one, so nobody is left out based on personal taste.

Timing matters too. Holding the party in November, before the run of Thanksgiving and other holiday commitments, often pulls better attendance, since employees and their spouses haven’t yet filled their calendars with family events. Planning early, or even holding the celebration in January after the holidays settle down, also opens up a much better selection of venues and entertainment, instead of competing with every other company trying to book the same few weeks in December.

Booking last minute doesn’t mean nothing will be available, but it often means settling for whoever happens to be open rather than the entertainment that actually fits your event. The companies that plan ahead are usually the same companies whose employees describe the holiday party as something they look forward to, not something they tolerate, or don’t get at all.

If you’re weighing options for this year’s celebration, ask what you want people saying about the party in January. A forgettable one gets forgotten fast. One built around real audience interaction, the kind a mentalism show delivers, tends to be the one people are still talking about at their desks weeks later, and the one that sends them into the new year feeling like their work actually mattered.
